Learn Shabbat Shacharit in the Spanish Portuguese Tradition of the Bendigamos Amsterdam

Join us for this 8-week course to learn the tools to lead Shabbat Shacharit in the Spanish Portuguese tradition as led in the Bendigamos community in Amsterdam.

Each week we will learn how to chant/sing the prayers of Shabbat Shacharit and also take some time to explore different aspects of the service to broaden the scope of knowledge.  Themes will include: Summary of Pesukei Dezimra (part 1, part 2), Shacharit during special shabbatot (Rosh Chodesh, Chanukah, Shabbat Zachor etc.), Hebrew pronunciation in the Amsterdam tradition, what to do without a minyan and what happens after the kaddish.

There will be opportunities to support your learning during the week via a what’s app group, as well as short recordings sent after each class.   There will be a 2 week break over Pesach which will give students time to consolidate all they have learnt in the first few weeks.  In the last class we will have a student-led demonstration Shacharit service and there will be an opportunity to prepare for this in the seventh week.

Teaching will be in English.  Each session will last for an hour and there will be 15 minutes for Q&A at the end.

Cost: Full Course £88.00 or Concession/Student £66.00

The course starts on starting on Thursday 20th March 2025 for eight weeks on Zoom, with a two week break over Pesach, running through to Thursday 22nd May 2025 at 19:30 - 20:45 GMT*.
