Cantor Sue Knight Deutsch is a member of the Cantors Assembly currently serving as Adjunct Clergy for several synagogues in Southern California. Originally trained as a psychiatric social worker in her native England, she studied for the cantorate after moving to California and became a certified chaplain. She served two Conservative congregations as Chazan and then became the sole spiritual leader and chaplain of a Jewish assisted living facility in California for 16 years. With all her training, it was the experience of losing her husband to cancer in mid-life that deepened her calling to reach out and help others beyond her pulpit, and ultimately led to the publication of “The Healing Hand: 5 discussions to have with the dying who are living”. In addition to maintaining a High Holy Day Pulpit, she travels to speak and teach workshops on resilience, mindfulness, and grief recovery. Cantor Sue continues to teach, write and publish.
